Running Away With More Races

On Thursday afternoon, the Breakers Cross Country team gleefully left school early to race against King City for a dual meet at San Lorenzo Park.  After enduring an hour-and-a-half long bus ride, the team arrived and prepared for the event shortly to come.  The first athletes to compete were those on the Boy’s Varsity team, which finished with Pacific Grove runners Will Stephano first overall, followed by Henry Loh in second and Jake Alt in third–a guaranteed win in that particular race, due to how the math of cross country scoring works out in a dual meet.  Will won the 5k race with a time of 16:59, a literally breathtaking feat–especially considering that he and the other Boy’s Varsity members were competing against not only King City but also a temperature of around one hundred degrees.  Following the boys was the Girls Varsity race, which PG member Mei Bailey placed first in with a time of 23:01.  Next for PG was Rachel House, who came in with a time of 25:20, and Alana Headlen, who completed the race with a time of 26:24. After the Girls Varsity race came the Junior Varsity race, which Robertson Rice won with a time of 19:17. Leo Lauritzen came in a close second overall with a time of 19:18, and Ray Birkett came in third with a time of 19:35, again resulting in an unquestionable win for Pacific Grove.  Stella Kim was the first PG girl on Junior Varsity to cross the finish line, with a time of 28:15.

The times of all of PG’s athletes that participated in Thursday’s’ meet can be found here.

Pacific Grove’s Varsity teams will be running on September 30th in Sacramento at the Capitol Cross Challenge, and again at the Peninsula Meet at Carmel Middle School on Thursday, October 5th.
