Last years boys varsity basketball

As we once again change our clocks and get ready for the holiday season, we are reminded that winter sports at PGHS are upon us once again.  Wintertime at PGHS is dominated by male and female soccer, wrestling, as well as male and female basketball.

Girls soccer looks to once again dominate, as they have made it to the playoffs both of the last two years.  The team is led by a talented squad of seniors, as well as a new coach, Coach Frank.  The boys soccer program consists of both JV and Varsity. The Jv team is coached by none other than Mr. Afifi, while varsity is coached by Mr. Lackey. Varsity boys looks to bounce back after an injury riddled season, as they aspire to capture another league title.

Wrestling is also underway, as Coach Grant and his seniors look to conquer league play.  Although skilled wrestlers Loki Lawless and Tyler Hawes are no longer part of the program, Pacific Grove’s season is still full of outstanding potential and success, for seniors Henry Albert, Foster Smith, and Fernando Roman prepare for the upcoming season as they hope to lead their team and dominate their respective weight classes.

Both basketball  programs look to have promising seasons. The Girls Varsity roster has changed dramatically, as last year’s roster was full of seniors, whom have since graduated.  However, a familiar face returns in Alexandra Patton, whom with the likes of Kulaea Tulua, are poised to be the team’s two premier defenders.  In addition, the coaching position is now held by two time boys JV basketball coach, Robin Lewis, who will transfer his past experience in coaching into this season.  Furthermore,  the Varsity Boys Team is primed and set for yet another stellar season, as two-time MVP, Bradford Sendell, and fellow seniors Zack Miller, Emmett Small, Gaurav Gurung, and Miles Lewis, hope to repeat as MTAL Champions.  Coach Powers is returning for yet another year at the helm of the program.  Make sure to keep an eye on all this year’s winter sports teams, for all are bound for success and are eager to represent PGHS this upcoming season.
