Breakers Defeat Gonzales on Senior Night

Written by Eli Swanson, Editor

PACIFIC GROVE — The Breaker football team started fast and did not let up on Friday in its takedown of the Gonzales Spartans. It was senior night for the Breakers — the last home game for P.G. before “The Shoe Game” — and they certainly did not disappoint.

After pounding the Spartan defensive line early in the game with runs up the middle, the Breaker offense sprung into gear when quarterback Colton Moore audibled at the line of scrimmage and called a play-action pass to exploit Gonzales’ pressure in the box. That pass to Kane Miller went 32 yards for a Breaker touchdown. Another score late in the first quarter — a 5-yard run from Uche Ebo — made it 12-0 to the Breakers.

Noah Cryns led the Breakers offensively — especially in the second half when Moore was out with an injury — and his first touchdown came in the second quarter on a 28-yard reception to put the Breakers up 20-7.

The Pacific Grove defense had another strong game, accentuated by a third quarter 40-yard fumble return by Dominik Prado that pushed the P.G. lead to 26-7.

Although Gonzales answered with a touchdown of their own, the Breakers owned the rest of the game.

Kolby Foster added another touchdown late in the third, but it was Cryns who answered the call again in the fourth quarter, passing to Noah Ryan for a 27-yard score.

Later on, Calvin Stickler proved that long rushes in the last few games have not been flukes when he took the ball up the middle and shed several tackles en route to a 65-yard touchdown that cemented the Breaker lead at 46-13.

Gonzales added a garbage time score, but it was not enough to overcome their immense deficit. At the final buzzer, the scoreboard read Breakers 46, Spartans 19.

Pacific Grove (6-1, 4-0 MTAL) faces two upcoming away games in the next two weeks before facing of in ”The Shoe Game” with Carmel on November 13th. The Breakers will travel to King City this friday to face the Mustangs (4-3, 3-1 MTAL), who beat Stevenson 42-28 in Pebble Beach this weekend.
