Winter Wrap-up

Written by Luke Hiserman

As the winter sports season wraps up and the Spring sports season begins, the Newsbreaker would like to recognize the winter season sports teams. The Boys basketball team just finished an exciting season. The team won the MTAL (Mission Trail Athletics League), finishing with a league record of 13-1. After clinching another MTAL title, the boys basketball team faced Harker High School and won with a final score of 52-45. The next week the team played Santa Cruz High School in the CCS (Central Coast Sectional) semifinal game and fell seven points short in the final game with a final score of 55-48, Santa Cruz. Head coach Dan Powers was awarded the Golden Whistle Award by KSBW for his outstanding job coaching the basketball players at Pacific Grove. Girls basketball had a fantastic season this year as well. They advanced to the CCS playoffs defeating Oceana in the first round with a final score of 52-39. Pacific Grove played Half Moon Bay the following week and, unfortunately, lost with a final score of 36-45. The boys soccer team played hard this season finishing with a league record of 1-9-3. The girls soccer team had a remarkable season with a league record of 8-2-4. The girls team competed in the CCS playoffs, but lost to Sacred Heart Prep 0-3. However, this was the first league title for the girls soccer team. The wrestling team won a league championship this year after going 4-1 during the regular season. In the league tournament Liam Cunningham, Orion Bautista, Gone Tawdrouse, Jaden Philip, and Robert Wilkerson came in second place in CCS, while Foster Smith and Tyler Hawes came in first place. Great job to all Breaker athletes this winter sports season!
